HaKokhav HaBa (“The Next Star”) has served as Israel’s Eurovision artist selection since 2015. Unlike traditional national finals, the television talent competition selects the performer first, with the Eurovision song chosen later. The format has proved exceptionally successful, producing internationally recognised artists including Netta, whose energetic performance of Toy won Eurovision 2018, as well as finalists such as Eden Golan and Yuval Raphael. Combining reality television with Eurovision, HaKokhav HaBa regularly attracts large viewing audiences in Israel.
