Introduced in 2015, Supernova replaced Latvia’s previous Eurovision selections with a fresh format designed to discover artists capable of competing internationally. Organised by LSM, the contest combines live performances with public and jury voting, often showcasing a diverse mix of pop, indie and alternative music. Supernova has become known for launching new Latvian talent, with artists such as Aminata, Sudden Lights, and Citi Zēni becoming fan favourites both at home and across Europe. Its modern staging and emphasis on originality have made it one of the Baltic region’s most respected national finals.
