Bulgaria has taken another major step toward hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, with the government’s draft Budget 2027 allocating €20 million for preparations and staging of the contest.
The allocation is part of the draft national budget approved by the Bulgarian government on July 1, 2026. The budget still requires parliamentary approval before it becomes final.
The funding is intended to support Bulgaria’s preparations as host country, including organisational planning, production work, venue arrangements, logistics, and wider coordination around the event.
Hosting costs expected to be higher
Earlier estimates suggested that the total cost of hosting Eurovision 2027 could reach between €20 million and €30 million. According to reports, the event is not expected to be funded only by the state. Contributions may also come from municipalities, the European Broadcasting Union, and commercial sponsors.
Key dates in the Eurovision 2027 roadmap
The government has also approved an action plan for the coming months. Under the current roadmap, Bulgaria is expected to name the Eurovision 2027 host city by July 31, 2026. Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas are currently bidding to host the contest.
The appointment of an executive producer, creative director and showrunner is expected by August 30, while a venue contract should be signed by September 10.
A major opportunity for Bulgaria
Eurovision 2027 will be the first time Bulgaria hosts the contest. The event is expected to bring major international attention, thousands of visitors, and increased visibility for the selected host city.
Bulgaria earned the right to host Eurovision 2027 after DARA won the 2026 contest in Vienna with “Bangaranga.”
More details about the host city, venue, ticketing and production plans are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
