The race to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is officially underway, with Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas all submitting their bids to stage Europe’s biggest music event.
Bulgarian National Television (BNT), together with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), will now evaluate each proposal based on venue capacity, transport infrastructure, accommodation, security, technical capabilities and the overall visitor experience before selecting the host city later this summer.
Sofia
As Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia enters the competition as one of the strongest candidates. The city offers the country’s largest international airport, extensive hotel capacity, excellent public transport and experience hosting major international events. Sofia’s Arena 8888 and surrounding infrastructure meet many of Eurovision’s technical requirements.
Plovdiv
Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited city brings a unique cultural identity to the competition. Famous for its Roman Theatre, Old Town and vibrant arts scene, Plovdiv combines thousands of years of history with modern event facilities. Hosting Eurovision here would showcase Bulgaria’s cultural heritage to millions of viewers worldwide.
Varna
Known as Bulgaria’s maritime capital, Varna offers a spectacular Black Sea setting together with a modern airport, large hotel capacity and extensive experience welcoming international visitors. The city’s coastal atmosphere could provide one of the most distinctive Eurovision host experiences in recent years.
Burgas
Burgas has rapidly established itself as one of Bulgaria’s premier festival destinations. Combining excellent transport links, a modern seaside environment and a strong cultural calendar, the city aims to deliver a memorable Eurovision experience for delegations, fans and visitors from across Europe.
Who Will Be Selected?
The successful city will host not only the live Eurovision shows, but also the Opening Ceremony, Eurovision Village, EuroClub, rehearsals, press centre and numerous fan events taking place throughout Eurovision week.
The official host city announcement is expected by the end of July 2026. Until then, all four cities remain in contention to welcome hundreds of artists, thousands of accredited delegates and more than 100,000 Eurovision visitors.
