Canada will officially join the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, marking a historic expansion for the competition and a major milestone for Eurovision fans outside Europe.
The European Broadcasting Union and CBC/Radio-Canada have confirmed that Canada will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which is set to take place in Bulgaria. Canada becomes the first new country to join the contest since Australia entered in 2015.
CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, recently became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union. This membership allows Canada to participate in the contest as an official competing country.
Canada will compete in the Semi-Finals in 2027. Details about how the country will select its first Eurovision entry are expected to be announced later.
Although Canada has never competed as a country before, Canadian artists have already left their mark on Eurovision history. Most famously, Céline Dion won the contest for Switzerland in 1988 with “Ne partez pas sans moi.”
The announcement adds another layer of excitement to Eurovision 2027, especially as Bulgaria prepares to host the contest for the first time. Canada’s participation is expected to bring new audiences, new artists, and a fresh international perspective to the Eurovision stage.
