Sweden is preparing for an exciting Eurovision 2027 selection season after broadcaster SVT confirmed a record-breaking 4,077 song submissions for Melodifestivalen 2027, the country’s traditional national selection competition.
The impressive figure marks the highest number of entries ever received in the competition’s history, surpassing the previous record of 3,888 submissions in 2026.
The application window opened on 21 August and closed on 11 September, giving artists and songwriters just three weeks to submit their potential Eurovision entries.
Only 30 Songs Will Make the Final Lineup
Despite receiving more than 4,000 entries, SVT will select just 30 songs to compete in Melodifestivalen 2027.
A selection jury will evaluate the submissions, considering musical quality, commercial potential, and suitability for the televised competition.
The 30 selected acts will compete across five heats, with the strongest performers advancing to the Grand Final, where Sweden’s representative for Eurovision 2027 will be determined.
Melodifestivalen 2027 Dates and Locations Confirmed
The competition will travel across six Swedish cities between February and March 2027:
- 6 February: Karlstad – Löfbergs Arena
- 13 February: Gothenburg – Scandinavium
- 20 February: Malmö – Malmö Arena
- 27 February: Halmstad – Halmstad Arena
- 6 March: Norrköping – Himmelstalundshallen
- 13 March: Stockholm/Solna – Strawberry Arena (Grand Final)

Björn Kjellman and Oscar Zia will host all six shows, bringing together a mix of familiar television personalities and musical entertainment.
Sweden Aims for Another Eurovision Victory
Sweden remains one of Eurovision’s most successful countries, having won the competition seven times, including Loreen’s victory with Tattoo in 2023.
However, the country experienced a disappointing result at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, where FELICIA finished 20th with My System.
With a record number of entries and fierce competition expected, Melodifestivalen 2027 offers Sweden an opportunity to return to the top of the scoreboard.
The winning artist will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria, where the country will attempt to secure a historic eighth victory.
